Liss Junior begins its quest to become a solar school.

Today there was a special assembly in the school hall with all of the children and the entire school staff to celebrate the beginning of Liss’ Solar Year project. During the next twelve months Liss Junior School aims to raise £15,000 (60,000,000 Ugandan Shillings) in order to install solar panels on our school roof. The aim is to reduce electricity bills by £2000 (8,000,000 Ugandan Shillings) a year by producing our own using solar energy, a clean and environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels.

We were inspired by the knowledge that our friends in Kafuro Primary School use solar chargers to power the school laptop and mobile phones, and we wanted to emulate their experiences. Therefore, over the next twelve months we will be carrying out all sorts of fundraising activities starting with a sponsored walk  next Friday. We will look to keep our friends in Kafuro up to date with our progress towards the target.
