Making Tippy – Taps at Liss

Our study of sanitation took on a more practical feel this week as the Year 6 children at Liss made their own tippy – taps. Before we began our builds, we discussed why they would be needed. We discussed that in areas where water is not readily available, that it is really important to conserve as much water as possible. Additionally, the need for good sanitation is really important. Figures tell us that incidences of diarrhoea can be reduced by 44% just by washing your hands with soap.

The children then watched Mr Stanley model to them how to build a tippy – tap before they went and built their own. They then wrote instructions for other children, so they would be able to build their own tippy – tap.
