This week has been very busy at Liss Junior School as we have had Test Week for Years 5 & 6 (Test week for Years 3 & 4 is next week). Year 6 take national tests known as SATs (standard attainment tests) every morning. This year the children have undertaken a reading test, a spelling grammar and punctuation test (new this year) and a mathematics test. Test papers are collected and the results are published at the beginning of July.Teachers in Kafuro may be surprised that the children don’t have a writing test, but this is assessed throughout the year by teachers, who then have to submit writing levels to the government before the end of the academic year.
Year 5 take tests in reading, writing and mathematics. These are marked internally and help support teachers’ assessment.
To celebrate the end of Test Week Year 5 & 6 have a SATs party where they get to wear their own clothes, play games on the field and eat party food.
Next week the Upper School Classes will be taking part in field trips to study rivers and settlements. We will share our experiences with our friends and colleagues in Kafuro.
