In dance we have been learning a unit called ‘World of Sport’ that is based on rugby. Readers of the Class AS blog will know that we covered this unit three years ago. We looked at the haka, the challenge that the New Zealand rugby union team lays down to its opponents and decided to create our own. The children identified the steps to success as:
- Showing movement on three levels
- Moving in time with each other
- Showing aggression as this is a challenge to war
- Making sure that the whole group could be seen.
The children’s hakas are below for you to enjoy. We would like to ask our friends at Kafuro Primary School if they have tribal challenges that they could perform. We could then ask Stu the ranger to film this when he arrives in Kafuro later this month.
