Inspecting the split colonies of bees at Liss Junior School

Today the Beekeepers Club (Year 4s today at the third time of asking) went to inspect our two colonies of bees. Both hives were fairly busy as the weather was bright but a little breezy. In the first colony the bees were laying more foundation while in the second hive the bees appeared healthy but probably need a bit of time to establish their colony properly and lay some comb. We didn’t spot any queens today.

The children enjoyed handling the frames and weren’t at all scared by the bees who were hard at work.
