Checking up on the bees at Liss

Yesterday Mr Haycock and Mr Stanley went to check on how the bees were doing in the school hives. When they arrived at the hives there was a lot of activity around both hives with the bees making flight out to collect food from the plants that are beginning to come into flower. The number of bees in both hives was reduced as the bees have spent a long winter keeping their queens safe, but there was evidence of brood in the hives which suggests that the numbers will soon multiply. As the weather begins to get warmer the visits to the hives will multiply and the beekeeping club will get underway in the summer term. It is expected that honey will be extracted from the hives in may as a great deal had been produced by the bees.
